ENVIRONMENT
We are very mindful of unnecessary consumption, our land is organically farmed and we employ permaculture and biodynamic methods. We are experimenting with the first swales in Tuscany – swathes cut in the fields to curb and harness the erosive force of heavy rainfall. The heating and the hot water of our whole hamlet comes from a solar panel system complemented by a wood-chip burner running on wood harvested from the lands. Waste water is filtered by a recycling plant and all rainfall is captured and used for irrigation in our drought tolerant gardens.
We use biological and natural detergents and our swimming pool is unchlorinated. The restoration of the Villa and hamlet was undertaken with natural renders and paints and every bedroom is equipped with a ‘bio-switch’ - a system that interrupts electrical circuits when not in use. |
